My
Friends

Let me write about my friends today. I don't have many friends. The main reason for my having my less friends is that rarely I do take initiative to go and talk to a person. Even if I talk, I talk less and it takes a long time for a person to be my friend. I have also failed to keep regular touch with most many of my friends, and the fault for this is entirely mine.
Mayers Briggs Type Indicator says I am an INFJ by character. I guess this may be affecting my choice of friends.
Rajesh Khanna : He was my classmate in Govt. Lower Primary School, Irinjalakuda till the 4th standard. I remember we used to talk a lot about stories in Poompatta, "Kalooluvinte Kousalangal", "Kapeesh" and all. I havent seen him after I left that school.
Vikraman K S : He was my classmate in National High School, Irinjalakuda, for four years, from 7th standard to 10th. A very innocent and helpful person. He was my close friend in school. He used to be the leader of a student party called "Students Federation of India" , which is the students wing of Communist Party and was our "Class Leader" for few years.I used to do "Election Campaigns" for him! I still remember how we used to wander in all ponds and fields during friday afternoons to collect lotus and Ambal flowers for the "Kalasamithi" meetings in friday evenings. His father is Korambu Subrahmanian Namboodiri, the famous Mridangist. Vikraman also plays Mridangam. After leaving school, I havent seen him many times. Whenever I go to Koodalmanikyam temple, I have a feeling that he will be somewhere there.
Jayashankar : He was my classmate in NHS. I used to call him Chettan. He was very much fond of reading Poompatta, Balamangalam and all. Right now he is in Coimbatore. I normally see him only once in a year, during Koodalmanikyam Festival, that also by chance.
Bharathanunni: He was my classmate in NHS for 6 years. One of the most intelligent and humorous persons I have ever seen. But we lost contact after school. When I met him last year, I couldnt recongnize him first.
Rajesh M: He was my classmate from LP School upto Predegree. A very brilliant and understanding person. He used to play Mridangam.
Sumesh CB: I remember him for the beautiful small paintings he gave me. I have them still with me. He was an artist. I dont know where he is now, but I hope he is doing the work that he likes.
Praveensal CJ: He was my classmate during the predegree course I did in Christ College Irinjalakuda. We were sitting in adjacent seats for the whole of the course. He is a very brilliant and understanding person, and also very humorous. I really enjoyed his company for the two years and whenever I think of my predegree days, he is the person who first comes into my mind. Again, I lost touch with him after my college days, but I met him few times very accidently. I still remember how we cant help laughing in the classroom talkng about some film jokes, even after the teacher catching us.
Madhu K: He was my classmate during Predegree course. We used to take lunch together for the whole course, along with Krishnakumar or Jyothikumar sometimes. I wish I could still go through all those days, marching to the auditorium with the lunch box, fighting for water in the pipe to wash, all the filmy and political chats and gossips... One day we attended a written quiz and one question was "Who is Australian President". I didnt know the answer, but I wrote it is "Papus Ucus" !!!! Madhu was sitting beside me, and he copied my answer. After the quiz only he realized that Papus Ucus is a fictitious character invented by me. We laughed a lot and still I laugh thinking of that.
Jojumon KK: He was my classmate in Christ college, but I started talking to him only when we joined Govt Engineering college Trichur. A very simple person and talented in many ways. He has interests in movies, literature, religion, philiosophy, politics etc. He was a fan of Mohanlal. We took lunch together till the second year, when he joined the Hostel.
Kannan PT: He was my classmate in GECT. A very simple, kind and helpful person. I have never seen anybody who is unselfish and frank like him. I feel it great to come to know him. But I have no contacts with him now.
Sajeevan PC: Leader of communist party in GECT. He used to sing and remembered many poems and film songs. A very simple person. He had interests in Literature and politics. He joined postal service after GECT. I have no contacts with him now.
Suraj CS : My classmate in GECT. I will always remember our lunch times together with Siju, Nambeesan and occasionally Sudeesh. Currently he is working in USA.
Sudeesh P : My classmate in GECT. A very humorous person. He could bring life in any conversation. I always enjoyed his company. Currently he is in UK.
Siju PB : Like Sudeesh, he was a man of ideas to bring some excitement in life. Be it ragging, cinemas, gossips or love affairs. I liked his company for the four years. I remember how one day we walked from Ramavarmapuram to Thrissur chatting about various things.
GT Nadiyan Selvam: He was my classmate in IIT Madras. People wont believe that such kind of men exist in this world before seeing Nadiyan Selvam. A very gentle, kind, brilliant, no egos, very unselfish, helpful, knowledgeable. He has interests in Tamil Ancient literature, philiosophy, astrology, astrophysics, science, engineering, politics etc. I always enjoy his company. He is currently working with me in Cisco systems. Really a great person. He is ISFJ by character.
B Lavakumar: My neighbour in Tapti hostel, IIT Madras. It was great to be his friend. Currently he is working in TCS, Kanpur. He should be an ISFP.
Ranjith Gopalakrishnan: He is doing MS in Computer Science at IITM. A very knowledgiable person in Networking, Linux and various other topics. But my talks with him always drifted to various experiments in the web.
Rajith Nair: Even though we met in IIT, we have close contact only after I joined Philips software centre, Bangalore. I have been staying with him only for around three months, but I feel like that I knew him from childhood. A very understanding and talented person. He has interests in History, Politics, Music, Malayalam movies, literature and has ability to make friendships quickly. He is having the nicest home pages among my friends, at www.rajith.org. He is going to Philips, Netherlands. He must be an ESFP by character.
Ramakrishnan M: My another roommate. A genius in all aspects
of computers and also a person of Music. Moreover, he is very simple, humble
and understanding person. A Gentleman. He should be an ISFP.

Idappilli Raghavan Pilla once told:
Satyajit Ray's
Movies

Apu Trilogy: I have written about the trilogy elsewhere, I think in my livejournal. So I wont repeat it here. "Poetry in Celluloid" has become a cliche that is used to denote any "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai", "Dil to Pagal Hai" or "Taal". But if somebody really want to know the meaning of the phrase, they should see these movies.
Charulata: This movie is based on Rabindranath Tagore's story Nashtanirh (The broken Nest). It is one of the greatest short stories ever written, depicting complex human relationships and situations. When I read the translation in Malayalam, I felt like I should learn Bengali just to read this story and novels of Bibhoothibhooshan Banarjee in the original. Charulata's husband is Bhoopathi, running a news paper, has political (freedom movement) stands, and does not get time to spend with Charu. Charulath feels lonely and when Bhoopathi's cousin Amal comes to stay in the house, she develops a strong affection for him. Madhabi Mukherjee is simply superb as Charulata, and the melodious music given by Ray himself is so moving.
Mahanagar: Madhabi Mukherjee again gives a great performance as Arati, wife of Subrata Majumdar. Living in the big city, they are in need of money, and Arati starts going for a job as sales girl, against the wishes of her father in law. Tension in relationships starts. Majumdar loses his job and the family depends upon Arati's job. Now Majumdar is developing a complex. Another great movie from Ray.
Nayak: In spite of success, money, physical comfort and all, Actor Arindam feels an emptiness and loneliness in life. While going to receive an award from Delhi, he talks freely to a journalist regarding his life story, his worries. Even though termed br critics as one of Ray's inferior movies, I felt it is better than any of the national award movies in the last decade. It made me remember Smultronstället (Wild Strawberries) by Ingmar Bergman in which the aged doctor, going to receive an award recollects his childhood and past.
Jai Baba Felunath: A detective movie by Ray, based on his own story. I felt like going with Feluda, Jatayu and Topse, investigating a case. It has the mark of the master director and cant be termed as a conventional crime story.
Kapurush (The coward): Amitabha, a scriptwriter based on Calcutta, is travelling, and his car breaks down in a lonely place where there are no workshops around. A gentleman, tea planter offers him to accommodate in his house for one night. In his house, he sees his old lover Karuna, wife of his host. He had refused to confront family's disapproval for the marriage long time back. Great acting by Madhabi Mukherjee and Soumitra Chatterjee.
Mahapurush: It is a comedy movie with lot of dialogues, and I
couldnt appreciate it much. May be, like "Gopi Gyne Bagha Byne", only Bengalees
can enjoy this movie to the full extend, as the subtitles cant convey the
full effect of the dialogues.
